'The Faces We Wear' explores the layered nature of identity and the quiet tension between inner experience and outward presentation. The portrait is constructed through fractured planes of colour that move across the face and body, suggesting shifting emotional states rather than fixed features. Each colour field functions as both light and feeling, revealing how identity is rarely singular but formed through overlapping impressions and lived moments.

Painted with water-soluble oils, the surface allows for both fluid blending and deliberate mark-making. These materials enable the colour relationships to build gradually, creating subtle transitions alongside sharper edges that emphasise structure and form.

The figure looks away from the viewer, positioned in a moment of reflection. This distance invites contemplation about the roles people inhabit and the ways in which personal narratives remain partially concealed. The painting considers how individuals navigate the visible and invisible aspects of self, acknowledging that what is presented outwardly often carries layers of complexity beneath the surface.

Through colour, gesture and abstraction within the figurative form, the work reflects on the many faces people carry within themselves and the quiet process of holding them together.
