Blowing in the Breeze
Blowing in the Breeze
I wonder whether you ever experienced the joy of running through the laundry drying on the washing line when you were a young child? If you did, you would know the frisson of uncertainty that accompanied it. You never knew if you’d bump into someone, or something, as you ran wildly, the cool fabric sliding over your skin.
As like many of my artworks, this piece began far-removed from the concept it evolved into - the heady joy of wash day. My attraction to magenta and it’s vibrant, warming joy sparked the foundation of this abstract piece. Using a limited palette, I explored the effect of organic shapes veiled with transparent colour on a backdrop of uplifting vibrancy.
Opaque, irregular lines interspersed with the fluidity of scarf-like ribbons of colour hint at chaos and movement. Simultaneously, the variations in depth and strength of colour contrast to bring an almost ethereal element amidst an explosion of energy.
