Held in a tranquil garden studio in the Maroubra / Matraville area, these small-group art classes give children and teens dedicated time with a practising artist and experienced art teacher, while allowing homeschooling parents to outsource one area of their children’s education to a specialist.

The focus is on developing creativity, confidence and genuine art-making skills through exploration rather than simply producing a finished product.  Everything that we do is process driven rather than outcome focussed.

Children are encouraged to make their own creative decisions, experiment with materials, solve problems and discover what happens when they follow their ideas.

A regular creative space outside the home

Home education offers children many wonderful opportunities, but learning predominantly within the home can also mean that parents carry responsibility for many different areas of their child’s education.

A regular external art class creates a different kind of learning environment.

Children have the opportunity to:

• learn from a practising artist and specialist art teacher
• develop skills progressively over time
• work alongside other homeschooled children
• experience a dedicated creative environment outside the home

For parents, it provides the opportunity to step out of the role of teaching every subject and allow an experienced educator to take responsibility for their child's art education.

This program is about giving children access to an area of learning that benefits them, from specialist knowledge, dedicated materials, an appropriate creative environment and consistent teaching.

These foundations give everyone a vocabulary for understanding what they see, how to interoperate it in order to make intentional creative decisions.

Rather than telling every child what their artwork should look like, I guide them through a process of observation, experimentation and decision-making.  Learning occurs at every stage and builds over time.

They learn to ask:

What happens if I try this?

What changes if I use a different colour?

How can I make this mark?

What could I change?

What do I like about what I've made?

What could I try next?

This approach allows children to gradually develop their own creative voice.

The 8-Week Art Program for 

Homeschooled Children

The eight-week program allows participant to go beyond a single art activity and develop their skills through continuity.

Each session builds on the experience of making.

Over eight weeks, there is time to explore different materials, revisit ideas, experiment with techniques and develop a stronger understanding of the foundations of art.

The children will develop an ongoing relationship with the process of making rather than simply coming in each week to make another picture.

Our small groups allows for individual attention with a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 12.

Keeping the group within this range allows children to experience the social benefits of creating alongside others while still receiving individual guidance.

Children can work at different levels and explore different ideas while receiving guidance appropriate to where they are in their creative development.

Private Art Classes for Homeschooled Children

For families who would prefer a one on one approach, private art classes are available.

Private sessions can accommodate up to 3 children.

Private classes can be particularly useful for families or small groups who want a more personalised program or have specific creative interests they would like to explore.

The content will be shaped around the children's ages, experience and interests.

Art education is different when children have the opportunity to learn from someone who is actively making art themselves.

I am a practising artist and art teacher, as well as an early childhood educator.

My teaching combines practical art knowledge with an understanding of how children learn, explore and develop confidence through creative experiences.

I have taught hundreds of children through weekly art classes, workshops and full-day holiday art programs.

My after school classes and holiday art programs are a popular part of the studio. My holiday art programs give children the opportunity to spend full days immersed in creative exploration such as painting, drawing and experimentation.

School Holiday Art Programs

The learning doesn't have to stop when term ends.

Full-day school holiday art programs are offered during the NSW school holidays, giving children another opportunity to spend a day immersed in creative making.

These sessions run from 9am–3pm and allow children to work across multiple projects, experiment with different materials and techniques, and experience the satisfaction of staying with a creative process from beginning to end.

The focus remains on exploration, expression and problem-solving.

Mistakes are treated as part of learning.

If something doesn't work, we try again, adjust, problem-solve and keep going.

What grows through this process is not just an artwork.

It is confidence, persistence and a willingness to try.

Art can be part of the wider home education experience

A child's creative education does not need to exist separately from the rest of their learning.

Art provides opportunities to explore observation, experimentation, communication, decision-making and problem-solving.

It also gives children space to work without a predetermined right answer.

For homeschooling families, an ongoing external art class can therefore become a regular part of the week's rhythm.

Creative Pause Workshops

For parents looking for something that is just for themselves, join a Creative Pause Workshops which offers a different kind of experience especially for adults.

Held once a month, on the third Saturday of each month, these 2.5 hour workshops provide time to slow down, make art and reconnect with your own creativity.

The sessions are guided, intuitive and process-focused. No previous art experience is required.

It is a chance to step away from the demands of the week and spend time doing something simply because it feels good to make.
